As synthetic and semi-synthetic substances evolve, public safety personnel face new operational and clinical challenges. This course provides an operational briefing on 7-Hydroxymitragynine (7-OH) - a potent opioid-like alkaloid naturally found in trace amounts in the kratom plant, but now manufactured in concentrated form and heavily marketed in convenience stores, smoke shops, and online platforms as a "wellness" product.
Readers will gain a comprehensive understanding of 7-OH?s pharmacological potency, risk for rapid dependence and synergistic overdose toxicity, retail packaging methods, and the shifting regulatory landscape - including the federal Notice of Intent to place 7-OH into Schedule I of the Controlled Substances Act, alongside existing state regulations (such as Georgia?s Kratom Consumer Protection Act).
