Response and Interaction with the Developmentally Disabled Community (NTOA)
Course Hours: 16.0 Hours
Course Description
This 2-day course is designed to educate police personnel on the legalities and challenges faced when responding to calls with developmentally disabled individuals. The training will address responses to individuals with autism and the autism spectrum, Down Syndrome, and various social, cognitive, and behavioral challenges. It also addresses officer response behaviors, de-escalation techniques, and training aids. Students will participate in scenarios using virtual reality technology in order to practice the skills learned in class.

Prerequisites
Students must be certified and sworn law enforcement officers in order to attend this training.
Student must be registered with NTOA prior to GPSTC registration. (See the Course Special Notes.)
