Alzheimer's Disease and Dementia
Course Hours: 1.0 Hours
Course Description
**This course satisfies 1 hour of the annual Community Policing training requirement.**
This training course equips Georgia's first responders with the knowledge and tactical communication skills necessary to interact safely and effectively with individuals affected by Alzheimer's disease and other dementias. Participants will learn to recognize the common physical and psychological signs of cognitive impairment, understand the high-risk behaviors associated with dementia-especially wandering and impaired driving-and employ empathetic, non-confrontational engagement techniques. The course provides critical, Georgia-specific resource information, including the use of Mattie's Call alert system and referrals to the Alzheimer's Association, ensuring responders are prepared to initiate immediate search protocols, provide crisis intervention, and offer crucial post-incident guidance to caregivers.
