Course Description
This course is designed for the public safety instructor who provides administrative oversight and training delivery at the academy level. Course topics include curriculum development and revision, identification of key curriculum elements, and compilation of a comprehensive curriculum that meets POST requirements.
Prerequisites
- Possess a minimum of five years of service in a public safety or related field.
- Be free of any ongoing investigation or probationary status with the Georgia POST Council.
- Georgia POST General Instructor Certification.
- Complete a minimum of eighty hours of documented, verified training after completing the Instructor Training Level III Course.
Who Should Attend
Instructor Training Level III Course graduates who provide oversight to the development and delivery of academy/agency training should attend this course. The Instructor Training Level IV Course will provide instruction on POST-approved curriculum development to meet the training needs of public safety professionals.
Special Notes
The Instructor Training Level IV Course is in high demand. As a result, agencies are limited to one application for each scheduled course. Applications DO NOT roll over into future classes automatically. If an application is not approved, it is necessary to apply to future classes until the student is accepted. Students will receive an email at least one month prior to any online classroom or onsite activities with instructions. Applicants of the Instructor Training Level IV Course must submit a letter of recommendation from senior leadership of their assigned municipality. Applicants are required to submit documentation that validates a minimum of eighty (80) hours of training as the primary instructor.
