Instructor Training Level III Course

Course Description

This course is designed for the public safety instructor who provides administrative oversight and training delivery at the agency level. Course topics will include Strategic Training Program Improvement, Advanced Training Needs Assessments, Project Planning, Measuring and Evaluating Learning, and Course Delivery Planning and Logistics. 


During the course, each student will select an existing training program in need of improvement. Students will utilize the blended learning model to further develop the curriculum.  Students will use the GPSTC Online Classroom to submit assignments and projects. Students will also present their completed curriculum in a panel review setting at the conclusion of the course, requiring a return to the Forsyth campus. 

The Instructor Training Level III Course combines online and in-person learning activities. Students will establish their own pace to accomplish each online training module.   The initial block of instruction will be held on the Georgia Public Safety Training Center - Forsyth campus.  Following the initial in-person lecture, assignments will be completed through online modules, independent work, and guidance from the course instructors.  

Finally, students will return to the Forsyth campus (dates to be provided) during the delivery of two (2) Instructor Training Level I classes to serve in the capacity of adjunct instructor.  This time represents sixteen (16) hours of the Instructor Training Level III curriculum.  

Dates will be established for completion of each online module.  The schedule will be provided in the form of a Program Syllabus. All online modules and 2-day adjunct instructor service requirement must be complete within 180 days from the course starting date.

Prerequisites

·   Possess a minimum of five years of service in a public safety or related field.
·   Be free of any ongoing investigation or probationary status with Georgia POST Council. 
·   Successful completion of the Instructor Training Level II Course. 
·   Complete a minimum of forty hours of documented, verified training after completing the Instructor Training Level II Course.

Who Should Attend

This course should be attended by Instructor Training Level II Course graduates who provide oversight to the development and delivery of agency training. The Instructor Training Level III Course will provide instruction on course assessment, evaluation, and revision. In addition, the course will focus on survey development and data collection to determine specific training needs of individuals and agencies.

Special Notes

The Instructor Training Level III Course is in high demand. As a result, agencies are limited to one application for each scheduled course. Applications DO NOT roll over into future classes automatically. If an application is not approved, it is necessary to apply to future classes until the student is accepted. Students will receive an email at least one month prior to any online classroom or onsite activities with instructions. Applicants of the Instructor Training Level III Course must submit a letter of recommendation from senior leadership of their assigned municipality. Applicants will also be required to submit documentation that validates a minimum of forty (40) of training as the primary instructor. In addition, all applicants will be required to deliver a presentation in the presence of a selection panel. 


Applicants will be provided two hours to deliver a presentation from a variety of pre-determined topics. All applicants will be evaluated and ranked based on performance rubric. The ranking order will be utilized to fill the available slots for the Instructor Training Level III Course.

During this course, Level III students will assist with two (2) GPSTC Level I Instructor Training Courses, serving in the capacity of adjunct instructor.  Level III students will assist with the development of performance objectives in the Level I Instructor Training curriculum. In addition, Level III students will observe practice presentations and provide feedback to students enrolled in the Level I Instructor Training Course.
