Pistol Mounted Optics Instructor

Course Description

This course will teach the skills needed by firearms instructors when conducting pistol mounted optics courses at the agency level. These skills will include the correct stance and platform while drawing a handgun with mounted optics, correct trigger control, zeroing a pistol with mounted optics, applying the seven marksmanship fundamentals, firing multiple rounds on one target, operating the semi-automatic pistol with mounted optic weapon hand and support hand only, operating the pistol with mounted optic with occluded front and rear optics, proficiency with a mounted optic when moving and engaging steel targets, operating a handgun with optics while using a handheld or weapon mounted light and in a low light environment, the correct use of cover, and firing a handgun with mounted optics at different distances.

Training Outcomes

The expected outcomes and benefits will be that the instructor that successfully completes this course will have the tools and training necessary to teach, instruct, and facilitate pistol mounted optics courses.

Prerequisites

Students must be active law enforcement and possess a Firearms Instructor Certification in order to attend this course. 

Who Should Attend

Firearms Instructors that will be conducting pistol mounted optics courses at the agency level should attend this training.

Special Notes

 Students should bring a agency-issued semi-automatic handgun with a pistol mounted optic, any tools needed for adjusting the mounted optic on the handgun, extra batteries for the optic, duty gear (to include Level 2 or higher retention holster), a double magazine holder, 3 magazines, weapon-mounted or handheld flashlight, ear and eye protection, and a hat with a brim.
