Firearms Instructor

Course Description

This course is designed to develop qualified firearms instructors who can manage and conduct firearms training programs for semi-automatic pistols. Officers will be trained in contemporary firearms techniques, equipment, and accessories and will participate in a variety of combat shooting drills including drawing techniques, safe loading and unloading procedures, proper use of cover, immediate actions, engagement of multiple targets, and a variety of other shooting problems. The subject matter will include: safety, range operation, ballistics, instructor liability, low light firing, range organization, and marksmanship fundamentals of semi-automatic pistols.

Prerequisites

 Students must be certified and sworn law enforcement officers, and possess a POST General, or Level 2, Instructor Certification.  It is the agency?s responsibility, prior to sending an officer to this course, to ensure the officer consistently scores 90% or higher on the Georgia Semi-Automatic Pistol Course. This will be imperative to successful completion of the course. On the first day of class, officers will be required to produce a letter from their agency confirming a score of 90% or better on their last Georgia Semi-Automatic Pistol Course Qualification.

Who Should Attend

This course is designed for law enforcement officers that possess a POST General, or Level 2, Instructor Certification, and are desiring to become firearms instructors.

Special Notes

Agencies sending officers that cannot consistently score 90% or higher on the Georgia Semi-Automatic Pistol Course will assume the risk of the officer not being able to complete the drills and pass the Performance Exam.

Officers are required to bring a letter from their agency confirming a score of 90% or better on their last Georgia Semi-Automatic Pistol Course Qualification. Officers are also required to bring a semi-auto pistol, agency issued duty belt and holster (holster must have retention), magazine pouch, three magazines, hand-held light, ear protection, eye protection, and a hat with a brim. Ammunition will be provided in calibers: 9mm, 40SW, 45ACP and 10MM.

Please Note: Additional application processes will be required to obtain Firearms Instructor Certification status with POST.
