Repairing Trust Not Just Windows - Establishing Real Relationships Through Policing WITH the Community

Course Hours: 8.0 Hours

Course Description

Special note:  This course is recognized by Peace Officer Standards and Training as meeting the annual Governor's Initiative 2-hour community policing requirements.

In the eyes of some, the image of the law enforcement profession has become tarnished in recent years.  Even more sadly, the brave women and men who serve honorably and courageously have been vilified and misrepresented to the communities.  As a result, crime is on the rise, our officers feel unappreciated, and our citizens? fear of crime and disorder has skyrocketed.  Today more than ever, it?s time to move past the pandemic and national narrative and get back into our communities to regain the trust and legitimacy we so desperately needed to effectively serve.

This course is not your typical community oriented policing training.  Rather it intentionally puts a twist on grassroots community policing, focusing instead on what works today to engage and effectively communicate with our communities.  Officers, supervisors, and command staff who attend this course will learn and understand how to use reengineered community strategies to address community concerns and fears while re-imaging your officers and agency to meet the expectations of their citizens.

This highly interactive, discussion-based training is focused on community policing strategies that will enhance what your agency and officers are doing right, while providing ideas and concepts to aid in rebuilding and regaining public trust.  Through case study, video review, and class discussion, participants will leave this training with valuable skills that will enable them to effectively and intentionally participate in or manage a community policing program today.
