Course Hours: 8.0 Hours
Course Description
This 8-hour workshop will introduce the subject of youth firesetting to those individuals and professions who may not be aware of its importance. Topics to be discussed include the categories of firesetting, the motivation for firesetting, the importance of recognizing youth firesetting, and the appropriate methods for working with these children and youth, and their families. Additional topics include an overview of the juvenile justice system, and youth firesetting assistance provided from the Georgia State Fire Marshal?s Office.
Training Outcomes
The expected outcome of this workshop is
an increased awareness of the problem of youth firesetting in the State of
Georgia, both at the local level and at the State level, among those
professions that may not be aware of its importance. Many who are involved with children and youth
are not aware that this is an issue, or that it needs to be addressed in a
different manner. An additional outcome
is the anticipated increase in partnerships in the State?s communities between
the fire service, law enforcement, mental health providers, social services and
juvenile justice to address the issue in a broader fashion.
