Active Shooter: Breaching for Patrol and SRO

Course Description

This course is designed to provide school resource officers and patrol officers with the knowledge and skills needed to aid first responders in gaining entry during an active shooter event using mechanical breaching methods. The course covers the methods used to gain entry into structures that, under exigent circumstances, require immediate entry to save innocent lives. This is a physically demanding course. The student will use their individual abilities to input force into a system to generate mechanical advantage. The student will bend, lift, kneel, squat, run, walk, stand for long periods, and use their body to maintain the force generated during a mechanical breach.

Prerequisites

All students must be employed with a local or state agency and be assigned to school resource officer or patrol officer units.

Who Should Attend

This course should be attended by full time, certified and sworn local and state law enforcement officers assigned to school resource officer or patrol units. 

Special Notes

This is a physically demanding course. The student is required to bring gloves, eye protection, and hearing protection. The student will use their individual abilities to input force into a system to generate mechanical advantage. The student will bend, lift, kneel, squat, run, walk, stand for long periods, and use their body to maintain the force generated during a mechanical breach. This course uses a force-on-force training model; therefore, the student will need to bring protection such as long sleeve shirts or jacket. For day 2 of the course, the student must bring clothing appropriate for civilian role-play. Head, throat, and groin protection will be provided. Students must bring note taking materials such as a pen and paper. Students should bring snacks and a refillable water container due to limited breaks.
