Bullying & Negativity in the Communications Center

Course Description

By its very nature, public safety telecommunications is a complicated and stressful endeavor. To support telecommunicators in their daily functions. This course on Bullying and Negativity in the Communications Center examines how bullying occurs and how to combat the issue. The eight-hour course explores the nature of the problem, its impact on people and organizations, corrective actions that can be taken, and steps to foster and maintain civility in the communications center. Topics include behavior associate with bullying, the impact of bullying on individuals, the impact on Communications Center Operations, management's responsibility to act, civility and incivility in the workplace, overcoming incivility and cultivating civility, conflict resolution, and more.

Prerequisites

Student must be a GA. POST Certified Communications Officer employed by a Georgia Agency identified by the Georgia Emergency Communications Authority as a primary PSAP. 

Special Notes

This course is only open to communications officers who are certified by Ga. POST Council and are employed by a Georgia Emergency Communications Center designated as a primary PSAP.

This course is being paid for through Next Generation 911 Block Grants administered by the Georgia Emergency Communications Authority. Once accepted, students will receive a link to register directly with APCO. Put "GECA" in the PO number field to avoid being billed. APCO will invoice GECA directly, and the students tuition will be deducted from the agency's Block Grant allotment.
