Technical Rescue: Structural Collapse Technician

Course Description

This course is designed for technical rescue response personnel that operate on a technical rescue team or as a member of a regional GSAR team to satisfy the requirements of FEMA for Structural Collapse Technician.

The training presented within this course will help technical rescue response personnel operate during catastrophic events that require the knowledge and skills necessary to mitigate and operate in structural collapse incidents.  

Applicants will be given priority for selection first based on being assigned to a GSAR Team, second assigned to a local Technical Rescue Team, all others will be considered based on remaining openings. 

Prerequisites

Students must submit an affidavit signed by the Fire Chief confirming the student's role in Technical Rescue. The affidavit form will be provided upon acceptance to the course. Students must have satisfactorily completed the course Technical Rescue: Rope Techniques.

Who Should Attend

This course is intended to personnel assigned to a Georgia Search and Rescue Team, function as part of a local technical rescue team, are trying out for a rescue team, or their duties require them to perform rescues at structural collapse incidents.  

Special Notes

Students must provide full Technical Rescue protective clothing to include boots, coat, pants, gloves, helmet, and hood. All clothing and equipment must be in good condition and meet applicable NFPA standards. No shorts or sleeveless shirts may be worn.
