Fire Service Plans Examiner I

Course Description

This course will assist the student in verifying that construction documents comply with applicable building, fire, and life safety codes for fire protection and life safety requirements.

Writing reports, keeping records, and legal proceedings
Codes and Standards
Construction Types
Occupancy Types
The Plan Review and Permit Process
Introduction to Architecture and Construction Print Reading
Reading Site Plans
Reading Floor Plans 
Occupant Loads and Means of Egress
Fire Protection Systems Requirements
Fire Alarm and Detection Systems

Prerequisites

Current certification as an NPQ or State of Georgia Fire Inspector I OR successful completion of both 1) Basic Principles and Practices of Fire Inspections and 2) Life Safety Code prior to registration for this course.

Letter of recommendation from the Fire Chief or designee stating the registered student will be responsible for conducting fire service plans examinations for their organization.  

A copy of the fire inspector certification or student transcript showing completion of the Basic Principles and Practices of Fire Inspections and Life Safety Code courses are to be emailed to the course coordinator ([email protected])  at the time of registration.


Who Should Attend

Individuals assigned the responsibility of verifying code compliance through construction documentation and plans examination.  

Special Notes

This course is a Coordinator Managed course.  All applicants will be placed on a wait list pending verification of prerequisites.  Applicants who do not meet the prerequisites will be disqualified and must reapply for a future offering.  The course coordinator will provide information regarding course text books and additional materials needed via email once students have been accepted into the course.
