Surviving the Ground Fight: Half Guard

Course Description

This is part of a series that continues from the initial 24.0 hour Surviving the Ground Fight course. This portion breaks down common grappling positions and highlights effective control techniques for law enforcement officers that may find themselves in a ground fight situation. The half guard position is a defense position that allows the officer to protect themselves while on the ground. This course explores concepts related to proper position, punch blocking, sweeps, and reversals; all leading to a handcuffing position.

Prerequisites

Must be employed with a local, state, or federal law enforcement agency. Must provide proof of successful completion of the 24.0 hour Surviving the Ground Fight course or equivalent (syllabus or training curriculum must be submitted for comparison) and submit a current Use of Force certificate (Governor's Initiative). 

Who Should Attend

Law enforcement officers who wish to expand their knowledge and skill in relation to grappling techniques.

Special Notes

Students must bring duty belt (minus weapons of any kind), handcuffs and key, mouth guard, groin protection, and non-marking court shoes.


Student must provide proof of successful completion of the 24.0 hour Surviving the Ground Fight course or equivalent (syllabus or training curriculum must be submitted for comparison) and submit a current Use of Force certificate (Governor's Initiative).
