Use of Force Investigations
Course Hours: 32.0 Hours
An officer-involved use of force incident could unjustly affect an agency's credibility in the community. The Use of of Force Investigations course is an advanced training program for front-line supervisors, Internal Affairs investigators, and/or Command Staff who are likely to perform internal reviews of non-deadly and deadly force incidents in order to present a legally sound, unbiased analysis to determine reasonableness. Focus will be on use of force incidents that occur during initial officer/citizen contacts, in a jail facility, and in a prison setting.
To provide investigators with the knowledge and skills to effectively review and evaluate a use of force investigation.
There are no prerequisites. However, students must submit a letter of recommendation to the course coordinator from their Agency Head that they will be/may be required to analyze a use of force incident. This letter is required to gain acceptance into the class.
Who Should Attend
All local, state, and federal law enforcement front-line supervisors, Internal Affairs investigators, and/or Command Staff who may be responsible for reviewing and evaluating a departmental use of force incident.
