Speed Detection Operator
Course Hours: 16.0 Hours
This course is designed to improve the effectiveness of speed enforcement through the use of RADAR and LIDAR speed measurement devices by training law enforcement officers in the principles, proper operation, and statutory and case law related to the operation of speed detection devices.
Who Should Attend
Certified law enforcement officers that enforce speed regulations as a matter of their assignment.
This a blended learning course, consisting of an online classroom and an 8-hour on-site practical day. If the student is registered for a course at a regional academy other than GPSTC Forsyth, the practical session will be held at the location of that particular course. If the student is registered for the GPSTC Forsyth course, the practical session will be held in Forsyth and the classroom information will be available on the monitors in the lobby or from the front desk staff. Both portions of the course must be completed in full, in the allotted time, to receive credit. The online portion will begin on the first day listed on the course calendar.
The final exam will be administered in the classroom prior to beginning the practical exercise. The on-site practical day will be the last day listed in the calendar.
*****Again, even though the calendar lists more than 1 week for the course, the online portion MUST be completed in the FIRST 5 days.
Students MUST log in to the online classroom on the first day of the course and complete the Student Check-in Assignment. If not completed byp.m. on the first day the class is available the student will be locked out of the course and will not be able to continue. For records purposes, students who fail to log on to the online classroom before 11:59 p.m. on the first day of class will be designated as No Show.
When attending the 8-hour practical exercise, students should bring a vehicle equipped with an approved RADAR device. Students should also bring a department issued, DPS approved LASER. For a list of approved devices check the link http://dps.georgia.gov/approved-speed-detection-devices.
