Use of Force and De-escalation Options for Gaining Compliance

This course is designed to familiarize officers with the relevant statutory and case law related to the law enforcement use of force. Students in this course will also be provided an overview of de-escalation techniques that may be helpful in reducing the need to use force. This course is an interactive online course, and the students will complete activities throughout the course, which are designed to reinforce the concepts presented.
This course meets the Georgia P.O.S.T. Council requirements (effective January 1, 2017) for training on the constitutional use of force (both deadly and non-deadly) and de-escalation techniques. Students are required to complete a series of exercises designed to reinforce learning, as well as a final 20 question exam. A score of 70% or higher is required on the exam in order to successfully complete the course. Students who successfully complete the course will earn five (5) hours of P.O.S.T. credit. Failure to attain the minimum required score will result in a failure of the class. Should the student choose to repeat the course, tuition will be charged at the rate of $15 per credit hour. Tuition must be paid before the student will have access to the course.
