Fire Inspector I

Course Hours: 80.0 Hours

Course Description

This 80 hour course is designed to prepare students to successfully perform the duties of, and obtain certification at, the Fire Inspector I level as described in NFPA 1031. 


This course introduces the student to the roles and responsibilities of a Fire Inspector I. Topics include an introduction to the Life Safety Code, the International Fire Code, State of Georgia amendments to the adopted codes, and occupancy classifications, occupant load, and means of egress requirements will be covered.

Certificates of completion for all prerequisites are to be emailed to [email protected] 


It is recommended, but not required, students successfully complete the Georgia Fire Academy - Introduction to Fire Inspector: Basic Principles and Practices of Fire Inspections course and Life Safety Code course prior to attending the Fire Inspector I course.

Who Should Attend

Firefighters and Fire Prevention personnel required to become certified as a State of Georgia or NPQ Fire Inspector I. 

Special Notes

This course is a Coordinator Managed course. All applicants will be placed on a wait list pending completion and submittal of prerequisites. Students with previous attempts to register for this course will receive priority. Once the students are selected they will receive confirmation. Applicants not selected will be invited to apply for a future offering. Any applicants who do not meet the prerequisites will be disqualified and must reapply for a future offering.  All pertinent course information and resources will be available during the course. The Course Coordinator will provide information and handouts via email.  All students should update their GPSTC accounts to ensure the email address on file is up to date.
