Course Description

This course is designed to train public safety officers to approach people using non-escalatory techniques. Some of the topics covered are the Social Contract and how it pertains to communication, Gateway Behavior, the Universal Greeting, the Five Maxims, the voice of Persuasion, Redirection, and the Showtime Mindset just to name a few. During this 20 hour course, each student will create and submit two videos for the instructor in a performance evaluation. There will also be a 25 question exam at the end of the course.


Students may be Georgia POST Certified Peace Officers, Georgia Fire Standards and Training Certified Fire Personnel, Communications Dispatchers, EMS Personnel, Jail, and/or Court Security Officers. This course is helpful for other administrative jobs in public safety or the emergency medical field.

Who Should Attend

All public safety staff from Police, Sheriff, EMS, Fire, Communication Dispatchers, and anyone in public safety that has the opportunity to interact with the public to include civilian staff.

Special Notes

Students should come with an open mind and a willingness to participate. This is a video driven course and students should expect to view many video presentations. Instructors will on occasion video tape class instruction for performance improvement.
