New Fire Chief I: Challenging Issues

Course Description

This course will address the critical knowledge and skills pertaining to the responsibilities of a new fire chief; the nature of local politics and the fire chief's role in local politics; as well as liability and risk management issues and resources available to help the new fire chief meet his/her responsibilities. Develop the managerial, administrative, and leadership skills necessary for the new fire chief to effectively meet his/her obligations.

New fire chiefs in volunteer or combination departments; New fire chiefs in career departments; Department leaders who may become fire chiefs;  Local government officials and elected officials

Special Notes

The National Fire Academy does not utilize Social Security Numbers on their registration form; this form is in addition to the Georgia Public Safety Training Center application process. The NFA form will be completed on the first day of the course. Students must provide the Student Identification Number on the first day of the course. What this means to you: This number is used in place of a Social Security Number and is obtained through the Center for Domestic Preparedness (CDP). Applications for NFA courses that do not include a SID will not be processed, failure to provide the SID will result in the student not receiving credit for the course. To obtain a SID: 1. Register at 2. Select "Need a FEMA SID?" on the right side of the screen. 3. Follow the instructions to create your account. 4. You will receive an email with your SID. Save this number in a secure location. Use the SID in place of the SSN on the General Admissions Application Form (FEMA Form 119-25-1) and General Admissions Application Short Form (FEMA Form 119-25-2).
