Shotgun Instructor

Course Description

This course is designed to develop qualified shotgun instructors who can manage and conduct shotgun training programs. The officer will be trained in shotgun techniques, equipment, and accessories. Officers will participate in various shooting drills such as shooting while moving, multiple target engagement, transition from shotgun to secondary weapon, malfunction drills, and a variety of other shooting problems. Subject matter will include: shotguns and their nomenclature, ballistics, capabilities and limitations, shooting positions, fundamentals, instructor liability, safety, and range operation.

Training Outcomes

At the end of the course, the instructor should have a good understanding of the safety issues of running a range, running firearms courses of fire and drills.  Instructors will have a good understanding of the shotgun.  Instructors will also have an understanding of where to obtain information for teaching courses at their agency and be ready to teach at their agency.

Prerequisites

Must be a certified and sworn law enforcement officer. Must be a P.O.S.T. certified Firearms Instructor. 

Who Should Attend

Any certified and sworn law enforcement officer that is also a P.O.S.T. certified Firearms Instructor.

Special Notes

Officers should bring a 12 gauge pump action or semi-automatic shotgun equipped with a sling, shotgun shell carriers, duty belt with retention holster, issued handgun, three (3) magazines, eye protection, hearing protection and hat with a brim.  12 gauge shotgun rounds will be supplied.
