Semi-Automatic Pistol Level 2

Course Description

This course is the second in a series of four advanced pistol courses offered by the Georgia Public Safety Training Center.  The course is designed to enhance and expand the weapon-handling skills of officers who use semi-automatic pistols while employed as law enforcement officers.

 This course meets the requirements for POST Advanced Certification. 

 This course is not meant to be used as departmental remedial training.


Training Outcomes

At the end of this course, each officer will be more proficient in drawing the handgun, presentation of the handgun, target acquisition, reloading, target transition, one-hand operations, clearing malfunctions, improved speed with accuracy, and general use of their duty weapon.

Prerequisites

Students must be certified and sworn law enforcement officers, and should have a minimum skill level of consistently achieving a passing score on the Georgia State mandated Qualification Course (SQC), prior to attending.  

Students will be required to successfully shoot a qualification score of 75% on the first morning of class in order to remain on the roster. 


Who Should Attend

Certified/Sworn Law Enforcement Officers looking to improve their Semi-Automatic Pistol handling skills will benefit from this training.


It is recommended that students successfully complete the GPSTC's Semi-automatic Pistol Level 1 prior to attending this course.


Special Notes

Officers must bring their duty weapon, agency-issued duty holster (strong-side directional draw, equipped with a handgun retention device and securely fastened to the gun belt) and a minimum of three magazines with magazine holder that securely fits to a duty belt.  

Students will also need ear protection, eye protection and a hat with a brim. 

Students must bring at least 60 rounds of ammunition for their duty weapon caliber for use during the pre-qualification.  Ammunition will NOT be provided for pre-qualification. 

Ammunition will be provided in 9MM, .40, and 45 A.C.P. for practical exercises and the performance exam for all students, apart from pre-qualification on the first day of the class.
