Standards and Guidelines for Internal Affairs Investigations
Course Hours: 40.0 Hours
This course is intended for those investigators and administrators tasked with the responsibility of performing internal investigations. Topics to be discussed in the course are: introduction to internal affairs, case intake and classification, investigative procedures, mediation, adjudication and disposition, Garrity issues, and a review of major agency discipline policies. The class also incorporates an actual case study based upon published accounts of a recently concluded internal affairs investigation.
The applicant must be a sworn, certified peace officer currently employed full time by a local, state, or federal law enforcement agency. The student must also have completed the online training course for Internal Affairs Liability.
Who Should Attend
Any certified peace officer of a local, state, or federal law enforcement agency, currently tasked with, or anticipating assignment to, the conducting of internal affairs investigations.
