Standards and Guidelines for Internal Affairs Investigations

Course Description

This course is intended for those investigators and administrators tasked with the responsibility of performing internal investigations. Topics to be discussed in the course are: introduction to internal affairs, case intake and classification, investigative procedures, mediation, adjudication and disposition, Garrity issues, and a review of major agency discipline policies. The class also incorporates an actual case study based upon published accounts of a recently concluded internal affairs investigation.

Prerequisites

The applicant must be a sworn, certified peace officer currently employed full time by a local, state, or federal law enforcement agency.  

Who Should Attend

This course should be attended by certified peace officers of a local, state, or federal law enforcement agencies currently tasked with, or anticipating assignment to, the conducting of internal affairs investigations.
