Internal Affairs Investigations

This course is intended for those investigators and administrators tasked with the responsibility of performing internal investigations. Topics to be discussed in the course are: the importance of and need for internal investigations, police officer rights, due process, supervisory liability, administrative rights and duties, criminal liability, civil/tort liability, agency standards and strategies for investigations, Garrity v. New Jersey, Title VII, 42 USC 1983, 18 USC 241 and 242. The class also incorporates an actual case study based upon published accounts of a recently concluded internal affairs investigation.
The applicant must be a sworn, certified peace officer currently employed full time by a local, state, or federal law enforcement agency.

Any certified peace officer of a local, state, or federal law enforcement agency, currently tasked with, or anticipating assignment to, the conducting of internal affairs investigations.
