DUI Case Preparation and Courtroom Presentation

Course Description

This course is intended for public safety officers who have completed an IACP/NHTSA Standardized Field Sobriety Testing Program. Students will develop a DUI case, prepare the case for prosecution, present the case in a mock trial, and be evaluated on all aspects of the course. This program is designed to improve the officer's ability to successfully prepare and prosecute a DUI case.

Prerequisites

Applicants must have successfully completed a DUI Detection/Standardized Field Sobriety Testing course.

Who Should Attend

Officers responsible for traffic enforcement duties, i.e. DUI enforcement, would benefit from this training.

Special Notes

Students attending this course will complete a pre-course assignment that will be emailed to the students approximately 1 week prior to the beginning of the course, with a deadline to be returned to the instructor. This will be the assignment that will be presented in the Mock Trial. 

Students will be required to dress appropriately for a court appearance on the second and third day of the course. Appropriate dress is what the student's department requires/allows to be worn to court.
