Course Description
Through classroom presentation and discussion, this course provides Georgia officers with an overview of the United States Constitution and Bill of Rights by emphasizing the roles of the 4th, 5th, 6th, 8th, and 14th Amendments in law enforcement operations. Additional topics include: the State and Federal court system, legal authority, police - citizen encounters, lineups and pre-trial identifications, interviews, confessions, and Miranda, Katz and Jones searches, the exclusionary rule, Title 17, case law update, and legal research and resources.
Prerequisites
Due to the nature and the volume of material presented in this class, attendance is restricted to certified peace officers of the State of Georgia.
Who Should Attend
All Georgia Peace Officers looking to improve their knowledge as to the "how" and the "why" of day-to-day police operations are encouraged to attend, as are those seeking the POST Intermediate Certification.
