Course Description

This course of training is for Fire and Emergency Services personnel at the Chief Officer Level. This course is targeted toward the Deputy or Assistant Chief Officer or Company Officer aspiring to become a Chief Officer. Topics will include Leadership, Budgeting, Personnel Management, Training, Operations, Fire Prevention, Strategic Planning, and more. The class will meet one day a week for 8 sessions. There is a mandatory strategic planning project that must be presented on campus to the instructor 60 days after the last day of class.


Students must have successfully completed the Fire Department Management course offered by GPSTC or possess NPQ Pro Board Fire Officer II certification.

Who Should Attend

Battalion Chiefs, Deputy Chiefs, Assistant Chiefs, and Fire Chiefs or those working toward these positions.

Special Notes

The student will be required to complete a strategic planning project that will coincide with the GFSTC Fire Officer III task book. 

Students must have a working knowledge Microsoft Word platforms and data collection. 

Students will need to provide a personal Laptop with Microsoft Word or compatible software and thumb drive for this course.

This course does have a project assignment that is due after the last day of the advertised date of the class.  The return date will be established by the GFA Staff Coordinator. The students must come back to campus to present their completed project.  The exact date for this project presentation will be sent to the students well in advance to allow for planning.
