Course Description

The Basic Volunteer Firefighter with Live Fire course is a 95 hour course developed to address a portion of the new fire-related performance objectives in NFPA 1001, Standard for Fire Fighter Professional Qualifications, 2013 edition. The course content also reflects the specific pre-requisite basic training knowledge, skills and abilities that shall be completed before participating in any live fire training evolutions that are addressed in NFPA 1403, Standard on Live Fire Training Evolutions, 2018 edition.

This course also meets the current mandatory training for volunteer firefighters who will be serving in a response and mitigation capacity required by Georgia Firefighters Standard and Training Council. The course targets those individuals who have the desire to become a registered volunteer firefighter in the State of Georgia. The purpose and goal of the course is to not only meet the minimum training requirements mandated by GFSTC, but to meet the needs of local and municipal communities utilizing the services of a volunteer fire department.

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age, and hold membership in a compliant Georgia Fire Department.

All students participating in the Basic Volunteer Firefighter with Live Fire course will be expected to complete, and prior to arrival for the course, provide to the Course Coordinator a Physician's Certificate (Medical Release, Fit for Basic Fire Fighter Training). It is strongly recommended that the certificate be considered when the Physician is issuing the release.
