Basic Vehicle Extrication - Level I

Course Hours: 24.0 Hours

Course Description

This is a 24 hour course for the responder who is ready to take on the responsibility and training necessary to become a proficient rescuer that will perform as a team member on vehicle extrication responses. The student will be asked to demonstrate basic rescue functions to include use of extrication tools and patient packaging. The benefit of the training is to give understanding to the physical requirements and emergency actions needed of the rescuing responder to be successful in an emergency vehicle event. Vehicle anatomy, patient packaging, and scene termination are just a few of the items discussed in the course delivery.

Prerequisites

Georgia Basic Firefighter certification or NPQ Firefighter I, Crash Victim Extrication 1 within last 2 years, , NPQ Rescue Techniques: Rope Rescue Level 1 (to receive NPQ Rescue Techniques - Vehicle Certification).


Not Required but Strongly Suggested: EMR or First Responder, NIMS 700 and 100

Who Should Attend

Any firefighter or rescue team member that may be involved in vehicle extrication rescues.

Special Notes

Equipment Needs: Students must provide full NFPA approved structural firefighter protective clothing to include boots, coat, pants, gloves, helmet, and hood or NFPA approved extrication equipment. 

Sleeveless shirts and shorts/cutoff pants are not allowed. Professional appearance is required of all students attending.
