Basic Firefighter Training Course

Course Hours: 340.0 Hours

Course Description

The Basic Firefighter Training Course (BFTC) is an 8-week (340 hour) course that reflects the new NFPA 1001, 2008 edition standard, as well as NFPA 472 competencies (Hazardous Materials Core Level training) that affect the Basic Firefighter level. The students will be tested mentally and physically in stages throughout the course delivery to ensure competence and ability at the most basic levels of firefighting. At the end of the course delivery, a day will be set aside by the GPSTC to allow for the Georgia Firefighter Standards and Training Council (GFSTC) to administer the NPQ Firefighter I skills testing. The NPQ testing is optional and at the discretion of the student or their department. The State Certification test will be offered by the GFSTC on the last day of the BFTC course, but is not part of the pass/fail criteria of the BFTC. Course Graduation will be conducted Thursday evening and the students will be given the opportunity to stay for the GFSTC testing on the following Friday.
