Technical Rescue: Core Qualifications

Course Description

This course will build on the minimum job performance requirements first practiced in the Introduction to Technical Rescue (48-hr) training and continue to build the skills necessary to perform technical rescue operations for fire service and other emergency response personnel. Technical Rescue: Core Qualifications will train individuals with the knowledge, skills, and duties needed to perform as part of a technical rescue team member, using the general requirements established by National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) 1006, Professional Qualifications. Performance testing will evaluate general skills such as patient packaging, mechanical advantage, litter tending and other techniques that utilize ropes and fundamental core rigging.

Prerequisites

GFA- Introduction to Technical Rescue (48-hr course); or a passing score from challenging the "Introduction to Technical Rescue Skills Challenge" Tests plus First Responder, NIMS 700, & NIMS 100.

Who Should Attend

Firefighters that are active members of technical rescue team as well as firefighters that might provide the initial response to a technical rescue incident. Patient Packaging, Slope Operations, Mechanical Advantage and Litter Tending are just a few of the technical skills needed during specialize technical rescues. Participation will better prepare the individual to operate safely and allow him/her to perform as a member of a technical rescue team during technical rescue operations.

Special Notes

Each student is responsible for the following mandatory personal protective equipment suitable for technical rescue operations: helmet, Class III harness, gloves suitable for rope work, and rugged footwear. Due the practical exercises demonstrated by each student, the following is also recommended: change of clothing, hydration system or water bottle, personal pack, headlamp for potential night operations and supplemental food or snacks.
