Terrorism: Post Blast Response
Course Hours: 16.0 Hours
This course provides first responders and crime scene technicians with the knowledge and skills to properly conduct, and assist with, a post blast investigation. Topics include: An Introduction to Explosives; Basic DC Electronics; Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs); Overview of Bombing Investigations; Introduction to Fragmentation Analysis; Awareness of Secondary Devices; and an IED crime scene practical exercise.
LAW ENFORCEMENT SENSITIVE. Students must be employed by a local, state or federal public safety agency. Non-law enforcement certified applicants with pending felony charges or convictions are prohibited from attendance. The course coordinator may require production of a criminal history record prior to attendance for non-LEO certified applicants.
Who Should Attend
Law enforcement investigators, crime scene processors, Explosives Detection Canine Handlers, and officers tasked with employing technologies used for scene mapping as well as fire-rescue public safety personnel responsible for post blast crime scene mitigation and investigation.
The program is conducted at the Bomb Range located within the GPSTC campus. Extended outdoor practical exercises are performed during the course. Students should bring heavy material work gloves and professional clothing, appropriate for the outdoor environment, based on anticipated weather conditions.
