Training Operations in Small Departments

Course Description

This course is designed to provide the student with the essential tools and skills to apply a leadership philosophy to the training function and manage a training program in small departments. It is not designed specifically to enhance development or presentation skills, nor is it related to the public education discipline. The target audience includes individuals currently responsible for the overall administration, management, and supervision of the training function in a small department. Typically, this includes responsibility for leadership, meeting legal requirements, assessing training needs, providing budget input, and program delivery and evaluation. These individuals also coordinate the training schedule and manage training records.

Prerequisites

Fire service personnel must be trained to the level of basic firefighter as specified in Title 25 of OCGA.

Who Should Attend

This course should be attended by personnel currently responsible for overall administration, management, and supervision of the training function in a small department. Typically, this includes responsibility for leadership, meeting legal requirements, assessing training needs, providing budget input, and program delivery and evaluation.

Special Notes

The National Fire Academy does not utilize Social Security Numbers on their registration form; this form is in addition to the Georgia Public Safety Training Center application process. The NFA form will be completed on the first day of the course. Students must provide the Student Identification Number on the first day of the course. What this means to you: This number is used in place of a Social Security Number and is obtained through the Center for Domestic Preparedness (CDP). Applications for NFA courses that do not include a SID will not be processed, failure to provide the SID will result in the student not receiving credit for the course. To obtain a SID: 1. Register at https://cdp.dhs.gov/femasid 2. Select "Need a FEMA SID?" on the right side of the screen. 3. Follow the instructions to create your account. 4. You will receive an email with your SID. Save this number in a secure location. Use the SID in place of the SSN on the General Admissions Application Form (FEMA Form 119-25-1) and General Admissions Application Short Form (FEMA Form 119-25-2).
