Basic Communications Officer Training Course

Course Description

This course is intended for new communications officers of state and local governmental agencies who receive, process, or transmit public safety information and dispatch law enforcement, firefighters, medical or emergency management personnel. Topics include emergency telephone answering techniques, handling text telephone calls, radio broadcast techniques, and emergency management procedures.

Prerequisites

Communications officers in Georgia must complete an approved communications officer application with GA POST before being accepted in the GPSTC Basic Communications Officer Training Program. Students must be in good standing with GA POST and eligible to complete certification training. Additionally, active agency sponsorship is required. 

Who Should Attend

On or after July 1, 1995, any person employed as a communications officer shall satisfactorily complete a basic training course approved by the council. A communications officer is defined as any person employed by the state or a local governmental agency to receive, process, or transmit public safety information and dispatch law enforcement officers, firefighters, medical personnel, or emergency management personnel.

This course meets the training requirements for GA P.O.S.T. Communications Officer certification.
