Use of Force Instructor Training

Course Description

This course is designed to give the students the knowledge and skills necessary to design, develop, and deliver use of force training using static, dynamic, and interactive training. The course will provide law enforcement professionals with the principles of use of force, ideas on use of force training, and the overview needed to assist in the evaluation of officer-involved use of force incidents. Focus will be placed on use of force issues that correlate with the Fourth Amendment, Fourteenth Amendment, and Eighth Amendment. 

Prerequisites

Students must be employed with a local, state, or federal law enforcement agency, and must possess POST General or Level 2 Instructor Certification, or equivalent.

Who Should Attend

Any instructor-certified law enforcement personnel directed with conducting use of force training for their agency would benefit from this training.

Special Notes

Student should bring appropriate clothing for scenario-based training, rain gear, a ball cap, eye protection, and groin protection. Students must have department-issued duty gear (excluding firearm, ammunition, OC Spray, Baton, TASER), handcuffs with key, and body armor. Student must be able to participate in intensive training that may be outdoors and in inclement weather.
