Interior Search and Rescue 1

Course Hours: 16.0 Hours

Course Description

This course is designed to provide firefighters the basic knowledge, skills and confidence needed to conduct search and rescue operations at the scene of an emergency. Students will have an opportunity to learn techniques to successfully and safely remove a victim from hazardous environments. They will learn techniques to self extricate from dangerous situations. Students will participate in drills which involve practicing techniques of air management, searching with hose lines/tools and techniques for searching large areas. Students will participate in drills and scenarios using concepts taught in the course. Drills will be performed in heavy smoke and/or fire conditions. This is a very physically demanding course and students will spend a large portion of the course crawling. Medical assessments will be performed throughout the course.

Completed Basic Firefighter, Registered Volunteer, or equivalent Structural Fire Control NIMS 100, 200, 700, 800
