Shotgun Instructor

Course Description

This course is designed to develop qualified shotgun instructors who can manage and conduct shotgun training programs. The officer will be trained in shotgun techniques, equipment, and accessories. Officers will participate in various shooting drills such as  multiple target engagement, transition from shotgun to secondary weapon, malfunction drills, and a variety of other shooting problems. Subject matter will include: shotguns and their nomenclature, ballistics, capabilities and limitations, shooting positions, fundamentals, instructor liability, safety, and range operation.

Training Outcomes

Officers should be able to coordinate firing range operations while teaching Shotgun Fundamentals and basic operation of the weapon system. 

Prerequisites

Students must be a certified and sworn law enforcement officer and P.O.S.T. certified Firearms Instructor. 

Who Should Attend

This course should be attended by any certified and sworn law enforcement officer that is also a P.O.S.T. certified Firearms Instructor with a need to conduct shotgun training.

Special Notes

Officers should bring a 12 gauge pump action or semi-automatic shotgun equipped with a sling, shotgun shell carriers, duty belt with retention holster, issued handgun, three (3) magazines, eye protection, hearing protection and hat with a brim.  12 gauge shotgun rounds will be supplied.
