Patrol Rifle

Course Description

This course is designed for patrol and other law enforcement personnel who have access to a rifle while on duty. The course focuses on marksmanship skills and fundamentals with a patrol rifle equipped with or without an optic. Although the basics will be taught, it is encouraged for officers to have some working knowledge of the weapon system.  


Officers in this course will be shooting a rifle from various positions and at varying distances for situations which they may be confronted with while on duty. Officers will participate in single and multiple target engagement, decision reaction problems, and handgun transition. 

The course topics include fundamentals of rifle marksmanship, sighting systems, rifle safety, nomenclature, and maintenance.

Training Outcomes

Upon course completion, students will have a solid foundation and the skill set required to utilize their patrol rifle in any given situation.

Prerequisites

Students must be certified and sworn law enforcement officers issued a patrol rifle with optic or open sights. 

Who Should Attend

This course should be attended by certified law enforcement officers assigned a semi-automatic rifle.

Special Notes

Officers must bring (1) a semi-automatic rifle either issued or approved by their agency for use on duty, equipped with a sling, and any other equipment required for use of the rifle, and (2) the officer's duty pistol and belt.  

Rifle ammunition in .223 and .308, and pistol calibers in 9mm, .40 and .45 calibers will be provided during the course.  Any other caliber will require 750 rounds to be supplied by the agency or officer.

Prior to arrival to attend the course, the rifle should be zeroed at a minimum of 50 yards.  Zeros will be checked on the first day of class; however, zeroing time is limited.
