Structural Fire Control Instructor

Course Description

This class is designed to familiarize instructor candidates with compliance requirements of NFPA 1403 for live fire training. Students will review standards, learn how to prepare for training exercises, demonstrate procedures and techniques for conducting live fire training exercises. The different aspects of training in acquired structures, along with class 'A' fueled and propane gas fueled burn buildings will be discussed. Instructor candidates will participate in live-fire, scenario based training during which they will play the roles of both a student and an instructor.

Prerequisites

Students must have National Professional Qualifications Instructor I certification or successfully completed the GPSTC Fire Academy Instructor I course and completed a GPSTC Fire Academy Structural Fire Control course. A minimum of 4 years of firefighting experience with a certified department is required. Successful completion of NIMS 100, 200, and 700 are also required.

Who Should Attend

Department Instructors who are planning to conduct live fire training for their departments, whether for certification compliance or in-service training.

Special Notes

Students must provide positive pressure self-contained breathing apparatus and full structural firefighter protective clothing to include boots, coat, pants, gloves, helmet and hood. All clothing and equipment must be in good condition and meet applicable NFPA standards. Neither shorts nor sleeveless shirts may be worn. Students are encouraged to bring an extra self contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) and extra cylinder, if possible, for this course.
