Introduction to Next Generation 911
Course Hours: 2.0 Hours
Course Description
Emergency communications is the backbone of any successful public safety response; however, this critical service depends primarily on legacy technology first developed in the late 1960's. Next Generation 911 will harness today's technology to provide the public and emergency responders with more robust, secure, interoperable, and interconnected ways to communicate, and position 911 to more quickly adapt to other emerging technologies.
NG911 enables emergency communications centers to receive and seamlessly share information, resources, and even streaming video with emergency response partners. This course will review current technologies, discuss emerging technologies, and examine the operational impacts of NG911. Topics include a comparison of current and NG911, the benefits and limitations of Text-to-911, and the role of FirstNet and its relationship to NG911.
Who Should Attend
This course is designed for public safety telecommunicators; however, other members of the public safety profession may find the course helpful.
