Patrol Rifle Fundamentals

Course Description

This course is for the officer who has minimal or no experience with a semi automatic rifle (AR15/M4/M16 type rifle). It is highly recommended for any officer who is not proficient with this weapon platform, its function, and cannot obtain a zero on their own. This base of knowledge must be obtained prior to attending a patrol rifle class. The basics of a patrol rifle taught in this course include classroom lecture on: marksmanship fundamentals, care and maintenance, clearing malfunctions, sites, optics, loading, unloading, rifle function, and zeroing.  The training will also provide hands-on instruction and range drills.

Prerequisites

Students who attend this course must be certified and sworn law enforcement officers. 

Who Should Attend

This course should be attended by officers who have minimal to no experience with a patrol rifle and/or do not have knowledge of how to zero their rifle. 

Special Notes

Students should bring a patrol rifle with iron sites or backup sites, a sling, at least three magazines, and handgun with duty gear and magazines. Students will also need ear protection, eye protection, and a hat with a brim. Ammunition will be provided in .223/5.56, 6.5 Creedmoor, 300 Blackout, and .308. 

Students should also familiarize themselves with the operation and function of any optics they have mounted on their patrol rifle in accordance with the manufacturers instructions prior to class.
