Police Legitimacy and Procedural Justice for Community Relations

Course Description

In an effort to establish and maintain Police Legitimacy, through the practice of Procedural Justice and positively impact Community Relations, this course will provide students with an understanding of the concepts of Police Legitimacy, and how the tactics of Procedural Justice can be applied. Course topics include Principles of Police Legitimacy and Procedural Justice, Pillars of Perception, Establishing Police Legitimacy, Lawfulness and Legitimacy, the Benefits of Police Legitimacy, and the Nobility of Policing. Students will view presentations, videos and complete a series of activities.

Who Should Attend

This course is designed for law enforcement officers, but public safety personnel from all disciplines may find the information helpful.

Special Notes

This course qualifies for POST credit as a Community Policing elective.
