Firearms Instructor

Course Description

This course is designed to develop qualified firearms instructors who can manage and conduct firearms training programs. Officers will be trained in contemporary firearms techniques, equipment, and accessories and will participate in a variety of combat shooting drills including drawing techniques, safe loading and unloading procedures, proper use of cover, immediate actions, engagement of multiple targets, and a variety of other shooting problems. The subject matter will include: safety, range operation, ballistics, instructor liability, low light firing, semi-automatic pistols, and patrol rifles.

Prerequisites

Officers must be Certified and Sworn Law Enforcement, and possess a POST General Instructor Certification. Please Note: The graduation certificate from the Instructor Training Course is not sufficient to demonstrate Instructor Certification status with POST. Additionally, officers will be required to score 90% or higher on the Georgia Semi-Automatic Pistol Course, on the first day of the class.  Ammo for the GSAC test on day one will not be provided.  Officers must bring a minimum of 60 rounds for their attempts.

Who Should Attend

Law enforcement officers that possess a POST General Instructor Certification, and are desiring to become firearms instructors.

Special Notes

Officers should bring a semi-auto pistol, agency issued duty belt and holster, (holster must have retention), magazine pouch, three magazines, (optional equipment but used in the course - semi-auto patrol rifle, (RIFLE MUST BE ZEROED AT 50 YARDS PRIOR TO ARRIVAL), three magazines, sling, shotgun, shotgun shell holders), hand-held light, ear protection, eye protection, and a hat with a brim. Ammunition will be provided in calibers: 9mm, 40 SW, 45ACP, 45GAP, .223, .308, and 12 gauge.  HOWEVER, EACH STUDENT SHOULD BRING 60 ROUNDS OF HANDGUN AMMUNITION FOR THE PRE-TEST SHOOT-IN ON DAY ONE.
