Handling Flammable and Combustible Liquid Incidents

Course Hours: 12.0 Hours

Course Description

This course is designed to give firefighters as well as fire officers the basic knowledge, skills and confidence needed to safely control and extinguish flammable liquids fires. Included are definitions of the properties of both flammable and combustible liquids, types of storage containers and their hazards, tactics for modes of attack, as well as discussions and demonstrations of different types of extinguishing agents. Students must pass a written examination with a minimum 70% accuracy and successfully complete assigned practical objective to receive credit for the course.

Prerequisites

Personnel must be trained to the level of firefighter as specified in Title 25 of OCGA. Persons accepted in this course must be a member of a fire department in compliance with OCGA Title 25-3-23. 

Special Notes

Students must provide positive pressure self-contained breathing apparatus and full structural firefighter protective clothing to include boots, coat, pants, gloves, helmet and hood. All clothing and equipment must be in good condition and meet applicable NFPA standards. No shorts or sleeveless shirts may be worn. A pocket calculator would be helpful but not essential, phone calculators will not be permitted during testing.
