Advanced Report Writing

Course Hours: 8.0 Hours

Course Description

An accurate, well-written report is a critical part of any criminal investigation. This course will provide students the tools necessary for writing effective reports. Course topics include principles of effective writing including grammar and mechanics of writing, elements of effective report writing, law enforcement considerations, and preparing special reports. Students will complete a series of activities, including the creation of law enforcement reports, designed to reinforce the learning objectives. The final capstone project will require the student to demonstrate his or her understanding and mastery of the lessons taught during the course. While other public safety officials may benefit from the lesson's taught during this course, it is designed primarily for the law enforcement investigator.

Special Notes

This course is equivalent to the classroom-based course of the same name and meets the POST requirements for Advanced, Criminal Investigator, and Narcotics Investigator certifications. This is an interactive online course. Students are required to complete the Student Code of Ethics for Online Courses by midnight of the first day of class in order to be counted as present in the course. Any student not completing the Student Code of Ethics on the first day of class will be shown as a "no show" on the registration roster. All course work must be submitted through the GPSTC Online Learning classroom by 5:00 p.m. of the last day of class. Contact the instructor if you have any questions or need assistance.
