Drug Enforcement Investigations Course
Course Hours: 80.0 Hours
Through lectures, case studies, and practical exercises, students will learn to conduct proactive investigations of ongoing criminal activity. Upon completion of the course, students will be familiar with controlled substances, intelligence collection and analysis, physical and electronic surveillance, knock and talks, undercover buys, the use of confidential informants, raids, and clandestine labs. The techniques learned in this course can be used to investigate crimes related to drugs, prostitution, gambling, and other organized criminal activity.
The student must complete the five-hour online course Use of Force and De-escalation Options for Gaining Compliance that is offered by the Georgia Public Safety Training Center. Also, students must have completed one of the following: Search and Seizure for Law Enforcement, Search Warrants and Affidavits: Advanced, Criminal Procedure, or the equivalent of one of those courses.
Who Should Attend
Officers assigned to narcotics, vice, or other specialized units involved in the investigation of ongoing criminal activity and those who will be assigned to those units.
Students are encouraged to bring a laptop to class for taking notes and completing assignments. This class will fulfill the requirement of Introduction to Drug Enforcement for the Peace Officer Standards and Training Council Narcotics Investigator Certification.
