Fire Instructor II

Course Hours: 48.0 Hours

Course Description

This course is designed to teach fire service personnel on how to develop training for their agency.  Topics range from lesson plan development,  development of learning objectives, test development, and evaluation of training.   During the course, each student will write an original lesson plan on an approved topic and present the topic to the class.  This course will meet and exceed the requirements for National Professional Qualifications Fire Instructor 1041, Instructor II.  

Prerequisites

Students must have successfully completed the Fire Instructor I course offered by GPSTC or possess NPQ Pro Board Fire Instructor I certification. 

Who Should Attend

Personnel who develop training for their agency.  Personnel who are lead live fire instructors. 

Special Notes

Students will receive an online assignment 45 days prior to the first day of class.  Each student must complete the eight hours of online training prior to reporting to the first day of class on campus.  The student will be required to complete the online training that will coincide with the GFSTC Fire Instructor II course. The online platform will allow each student to print a certificate of completion that is turned in on the first day of class.   Failure to complete the online material or to bring the certificate of completion to class will result in no admittance into the class.  


Students will need to bring personal protective clothing to class with them.  A self-contained breathing apparatus is not required. 
Students must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Word platforms to include Microsoft Word and PowerPoint. These are necessary for completion of this course.

Students will need to provide a personal Laptop with Microsoft Word or compatible software and a thumb drive for this course.

Students will need the following textbook:

IFSTA Fire and Emergency Services Instructor 9th Edition  ISBN: 978-0-87939-696-1

The final exam and presentation will be administered through Georgia Firefighter Standards and Training.  Each student must know their Georgia Firefighter Standards and Training ID number or they will not be allowed to test.   Upon successful completion of this course, students will be awarded National Professional qualifications Instructor II credentials.   However, this class does not meet Peace Officer Standards and Training requirements for Instructor Training. 

Dress code for this class is either departmental uniform or business attire while in class. There is one outside practical in which personal protective clothing will be worn.  Nomex uniforms or clothing all natural fibers shall be worn under the personal protective clothing.
