Fire Apparatus Emergency Vehicle Operations Course

Course Hours: 24.0 Hours

Course Description

This 24-hour course prepares the student to meet the requisite knowledge and skills requirements of NFPA 1400 Standard on Fire Service Training and NFPA 1010 Standard on Professional Qualifications for Firefighters. This course will include topics covering legal responsibilities and requirements, apparatus inspection and maintenance, air brake systems, defensive driving, and due regard. The practical portion of the course consists of the NFPA Standard 1010 cone course and over the road driving assessment.   

Training Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will meet the requirements of NFPA 1400 and NFPA 1010, regarding apparatus driving operations.

Prerequisites

Students must have a Class A, Class F, or Class FP license in order to participate in this course.

Who Should Attend

This training will benefit anyone who wants to become, or currently serves as, a department apparatus operator, as well as those pursuing Pro Board or NPQ certification.

Special Notes

Students must provide a helmet, gloves, suitable clothing for outside work, traffic safety vest, and a copy of their organization?s daily vehicle inspection sheet.
