Public Safety Fitness Specialist

Course Description
This is a comprehensive course designed for instructors responsible for coordinating, planning, and implementing health and wellness programs at their agencies. Subjects include exercise physiology, anatomy and kinesiology, cardiovascular and resistance training, nutrition, supplementation and steroids, and other various health related topics. Students will also be required to perform a fitness assessment on a public safety employee and interpret the results. In addition to earning a passing score on the written examination, the student must design an exercise prescription for a public safety employee to successfully complete of this course.
Training Outcomes
Provide the instructor with the knowledge and ability to plan, design, implement, and coordinate a fitness program or evaluation for their departmental agency.
Prerequisites
Must be employed by a local, state, or federal government agency. Must possess General Instructor certification through POST or possess NPQ II Instructor certification through GFSTC. Must successfully pass a fitness test for admission to the course to include Push-Ups, Sit-Ups, 1 rep maximum Bench Press, 1.5 Mile Run or 300 Meter Sprint, and Vertical Jump.
Who Should Attend
Any local, state, or federal employee that is responsible for their departmental fitness training program.
Special Notes
Students must bring walking/running shoes, non-marking court shoes, and work-out clothes, water bottle, and towel.
