Technical Rescue: Introduction to Technical Rescue

Course Description

This course will introduce the minimum job performance requirements necessary to perform technical rescue operations for fire service and other emergency response personnel. An Introduction to Technical Rescue will train individuals with the knowledge, skills, and duties needed to perform as part of a technical rescue team member, using the general requirements established by National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) 1006, Professional Qualifications. Performance testing will evaluate general skills such as managing site operations, basic victim movement, equipment inspection and maintenance, and foundational techniques to utilize ropes and fundamental rigging.

Prerequisites

First Aid, CPR, First Responder, NIMS 700, and NIMS 100.

Who Should Attend

Firefighters that are active members of technical rescue team as well as firefighters that might provide the initial respond to a technical rescue incident.

Special Notes

Please pay special attention to course dates as some offerings begin/end on weekends rather than a weekday. All 5 days of class typically run 8-9 hours, since this is an objective-based class and not a time-based class. Each student is responsible for the following mandatory personal protective equipment suitable for technical rescue operations: helmet, Class III harness, gloves suitable for rope work, and rugged footwear. Due the practical exercises demonstrated by each student, the following is also recommended: change of clothing, hydration system or water bottle, personal pack, headlamp for potential night operations and supplemental food or snacks.
