Fire Department Supervision

Course Description

This is a 40 hour course for the firefighter who is ready to take on the responsibility and training necessary to become a Fire Company Officer, or is already a Company Officer with a desire to be professionally challenged. The student will be asked to demonstrate basic administrative functions to include pre-incident planning and company-level inspections. The benefit of the training is that it gives students an understanding of the administrative requirements of the line supervisor/company officer. Company Level Training, Communications, and Community Relations are just a few of the items discussed in the course delivery.

Who Should Attend

Newly appointed Company Officers, those individuals that are under consideration for promotion to Company Officer, or those individuals assuming the responsibility of the Company Officer.

Special Notes

1. All students are required to bring the IFSTA manual Fire and Emergency Services Company Officer, 5th Edition. 2. The following are assignments required by all students prior to the course: Read Chapter 3, Page 62; read Chapter 4, pages 82 - 89 and 90 - 98; read Chapter 6, pages 140 - 162. Students should bring a personal computer or device with the following departmental forms (if applicable): - Budget Request form - Departmental Memorandum - Sample SOP / SOG - Time-swap form - Sample Pre-Incident Plan - Company Level Fire Inspection documents.
